My work is a combination of painting, fiber art, collage, and printmaking based on concept and material driven exploration of ideas of abstracting personal and fictional narratives. Combining familial or found materials with those of my own allow me to navigate time and reference the past while reconciling present experiences, creating new narratives that conflate historical and fictional with the autobiographical. The delicate materials and muted color palette are used to examine withholding and restraint. Using the language of abstraction, I simultaneously chronicle and obscure autobiographical elements by shrouding and weaving images together physically and metaphorically. Creating artwork in this manner allows me to consider all the various parts of a whole. A person is a collage of experiences and it is this idea that is at the heart of each project I undertake.
